Article: No Use of A / An / The
There are three Articles - A, An and The
There are two types of Articles (आर्टिकल दो प्रकार के होते हैं )
- Indefinite Articles (अनिश्चित आर्टिकल) (A, An)
- Definite Articles (निश्चित आर्टिकल) (The)
No Use of Any Article
The rules for not using any article are as follows.
Rule 1: No article is used before the names of language (भाषा के नाम से पहले)
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
Hindi is spoken in India.
He knows English, French and Hindi.
Rule 2: A / An is not used before an uncountable common or collective nouns and any proper noun (अगणनीय जातिवाचक संज्ञा या समूहवाचक संज्ञा और किसी भी व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा से पहले A / An नहीं आता है ।)
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
Gold, Glass, Milk, Oil, Traffic, Dust, Water, Rice, etc.
Bihar, Mamta, Rahul, India, etc.
[Wrong Use: a gold, a Bihar] (x)
Mohan is a very rich boy.
Nidhi is more beautiful than Suman.
gold is used to make ornaments.
Note: A / An can be used before countable common nouns.
Rule 3: No article is used before a noun coming after the possessive adjectives, the demonstrative adjectives and the distributive adjectives. (अधिकारवाचक, संकेतवाचक और वितरण वाचक विशेषण से पहले कोई आर्टिकल नहीं आता है।)
Possessive Adjectives - His, her, Your, My, Our, Its, their
Demonstrative adjectives - Any, Another, This, that
Distributive adjectives - Neither, Either, Each, Every
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
My pen, his book, our teacher, their house, etc (Possessive)
Any boy, this room, another girl, that t-shirt, etc (Demonstrative)
Each teacher, either leader, neither place, etc (Distributive)
Each teacher, either leader, neither place, etc (Distributive)
[Wrong Use: My a/the pen, Any a/the boy, Each a/the teacher] (x)
Each girl has a flower.
Every student is not like that.
Rule 4: No article is used before the name of Universities, country, states, districts, islands, airports, railway stations, roads, streets, Months, Days and games (विश्वविद्यालयों, देश, राज्यों, जिलों, द्वीपों, हवाई अड्डों, रेलवे स्टेशनों, सड़कों, सड़कों, महीनों, दिनों और खेलों के नाम से पहले)
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
I have taken admission in J.N. University. (University)
He loves to visit India every year. (Country)
Last week, I left Maharashtra. (states)
Jaunpur is a historical place. (District)
Last year, he visited Sumatra. (Islands)
First time, I was seeing Babatpur Airport (airport)
I purchased raincoat from Prayagraj station. (Railway station)
You often walk on mahatma Gandhi Road. (Road)
He went there on Monday. (Months)
he will start his tuition from Friday. (Days)
Football is a popular game. (Games)
I love to watch cricket. (Games)
Note: But if name of game is used as countable noun, A / An is used
(For Example: I purchased a football.)
Rule 5: No article is used before plural nouns
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
Children, Sheep, People, Parents, Brothers, boys, pens, etc
[Wrong use: A children] (x)
Boys are going to village.
Rule 6: No article is used after kind of, sort of, type of, variety of
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
kind of cloth, type of person, sort of machines, variety of grains
[Wrong use: kind of a/the cloth] (x)
What kind of cloth is this?
Rule 7: No article is used before the name of the meal (भोजन का नाम)
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
Give Breakfast, Have dinner, At lunch, Before tea, After coffee
[Wrong Use: Give a/the breakfast, Have a/the dinner] (x)
We have lunch at 2:00 pm.
Please come to tea.
Rule 8: No article is used for the mean of transport after by
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
He will come by car.
We will travel from Prayagraj to Jaunpur by train.
Note: If mean of transport is used as a singular countable noun, A / An is used
(For Example: I purchased a car.)
Rule 9: No article is used after preposition with uncountable noun. However A/ An is used after preposition with countable noun. (अगणनीय संज्ञा के साथ पूर्वसर्ग के बाद किसी भी आर्टिकल का उपयोग नहीं किया जाता है। हालाँकि, A / An का उपयोग गणनीय संज्ञा के साथ पूर्वसर्ग के बाद किया जाता है।)
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
At play, At least, At work, In fact, In pain, In action (Uncountable noun)
On duty, On fire, On foot, By accident, By hand, By post (Uncountable noun)
At a place, In a house, On a road, By a stone (Countable noun)
Rule 10: No article is used before noun in the form
[to + verb + noun] or [for + uncountable noun]
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
She is ready to leave college now.
I can do anything for money.
Rule 11: No article is used before the noun coming after post of, rank of, title of, position of and job of
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
The post of Director, The rank of DGP, The title of Bapu, The position of clerk, The job of teacher
[Wrong Use: The post of a/the Director] (x)
Rule 12: No article is used, if adjective of a noun is present in the sentence without that noun
For Example (उदाहरण के लिए)
He is honest. (Adjective without noun)
[Wrong Use: He is a honest] (x)
No te: A/ An will be used before adjective of noun if adjective is present with its noun
He is an honest man. (Adjective with noun i.e. man)
